Metro rail

Solutions — Metro & Rail

Inside the Tunnel.
Above the Track.
Safely.

Metro tunnels, elevated rail structures, station canopies, and depot maintenance facilities present access challenges that no standard construction machine can address. Confined dimensions, non-marking floor requirements, live-track proximity, and low-noise specifications demand equipment configured precisely for the rail environment.

The Rail & Metro Challenge

Why Standard Lift Equipment
Cannot Enter the Rail Environment

🚇
Tunnel & Station Dimensions Are Non-Negotiable
Metro tunnel cross-sections are fixed. Station platforms and emergency egress routes have minimum clearance requirements that cannot be compromised. A machine that is 100 mm too wide cannot enter — there is no workaround. Equipment must be specified to fit the exact envelope available.
Solution: MD/ME Series — 740 mm min width, compact mast design
🛤️
Floor Marking Triggers Remediation
Polished station floors, depot concrete, and trackbed surfaces are subject to strict maintenance standards. Black tyre marks from standard industrial rubber tyres trigger mandatory floor remediation — an expensive and disruptive process on a live transit system.
Solution: Non-marking polyurethane tyre option on MD/ME Series
Hydraulic Oil Near Overhead Catenary Is Prohibited
Many rail safety frameworks prohibit mineral-oil-containing equipment within defined proximity of live or de-energised overhead catenary lines. A single hydraulic leak near an OCS conductor creates both a contamination hazard and a fire risk under specific re-energisation scenarios.
Solution: MD Series oil-free electric — zero hydraulic oil, fully compliant

Application Scenarios

Where Chenlift Works
in the Rail Environment

Tunnel Maintenance & Infrastructure Inspection

Metro tunnel maintenance covers overhead catenary inspection, lighting replacement, tunnel lining crack surveys, signalling gantry inspection, and ventilation duct servicing. All work must be completed within engineering windows — typically 2–6 hours — which means equipment must be positioned, used, and cleared rapidly.

The MD Series mast lift’s 740 mm base width fits most metro cross-sections. The oil-free electric drive satisfies OCS-proximity requirements, and the silent operation ensures work can continue near other crews without noise interference.

740 mm base width — fits most standard metro tunnel profiles
Oil-free drive — compliant with OCS mineral-oil proximity restrictions
Zero maintenance residue — no oil drip on trackbed or ballast

Station Canopy & Platform Access

Station environments combine the constraints of public-facing spaces with the operational demands of 24/7 transit. Maintenance must be completed during engineering windows on surfaces that cannot be marked or damaged. Canopy steelwork, lighting, CCTV, and PA system access all require a platform that can position an operator at heights of 4–12 m without leaving any trace on the station floor.

Non-marking polyurethane tyres — no marks on polished station floors
Low noise — electric drive below 65 dB, suitable for station environments
Compact base — fits between platform edge and structural columns

Depot Maintenance Facilities

Rolling stock maintenance depots require access to vehicle rooflines (typically 3.8–4.5 m above rail), overhead pantograph systems, and depot infrastructure including overhead cranes, gantries, and lighting rigs. The depot floor is typically subject to strict housekeeping standards — hydrocarbon contamination from lift hydraulics triggers compliance investigations.

Platform height to 6–14 m — covers roof access and overhead systems
Oil-free or low-temp hydraulic spec for depot environments
Fleet OEM programme — branded livery for depot operator identity

★★★★★

“We specified Chenlift ME Series aluminum mast lifts with non-marking tyres for station canopy and platform lighting maintenance across 14 metro stations. The key requirements were width (to fit between platform edge furniture and structural columns), zero floor marking, and low noise. The machines met all three. Pre-shipment inspection by Bureau Veritas was arranged through Chenlift and completed without any issues.”
